Job Description – Electrical Contract Manager & Estimator

Salary: £50,000 per year

Location: South East London

The Opportunity


Established for over 80 years, my client is a successful building services company providing electrical and mechanical services to the public and private sector.   Alongside their existing M&E estimating team, the candidate will work on projects of up to £2m in value, for blue chip public sector clients.  We specialise in detailed project and contract planning and delivering high standards of value and quality to long term clients.


The Candidate


Will have a proven background in the electrical contracting industry and have excellent and extensive electrical technical knowledge.

Will be able to work and communicate with managers, engineers and clients alike.

To be able to contract manage projects from inception to final account.

To be able to carry out structural estimating of all electrical disciplines.

You will have good IT skills and experience using estimating software packages.

To be an excellent communicator and be able to manage your time and deadlines efficiently.

You will be experienced with the current Electrical Wiring Regulations and H&S legislation.

Main Requirements


To be able and willing to contract manage jobs and projects from inception to final account.

To have the ability to continually increase profit level on projects with value engineers, open price competition and variation.

To be responsible for costing and securing variations within valuation timescale.

To work closely alongside the current estimating team and contract managers.

To be able to read and understand Building Services and Architects drawings.

Create material take offs from drawings.

Ability to create an estimate using our estimating software package, Extreme Estimation by Amtech.

To be friendly and able to communicate well with clients and colleagues alike.

Ability to talk confidently at all levels at site or client meetings.

To fully detail tender and confidently sell the job.

To have a basic knowledge and ideally some experience with CAD.
To work closely with senior managers on all aspects of estimation assessment to project development.

Person Specification – Essential Criteria

The candidate will have and submit the following full industry qualifications for approval:

  • NVQ Level 3 – Electrical Installation or
  • City & Guilds 2330 Certificate in Electro technical installation levels 2 & 3
  • City & Guilds 2394 & 2395 Certificate in Inspection & Testing
  • City & Guilds 2382 17th Edition & City & Guilds 2393 Building regulations in dwellings
  • Provide three references from previous employers at Director or Senior Management level.

Clean driving licence

Full UK passport 5 years +

Clean criminal record – security clearance is needed to access many sites
