Salary: £50k to £60k

Purpose, Context & Responsibilities:

To deliver complex engineering projects that include HVAC and full mechanical and electrical systems, associated structural steelwork and civil engineering.

  • Preparation of analytical estimates for Mechanical Engineering works that are technically accurate and with an acceptable risk level, from outline drawings and specifications
  • Participate in the design development to assess buildability, materials, innovation, and cost-effectiveness of proposals. • Provide high-level pricing information early in the Tender for optioneering and budgeting exercises to ensure the most cost-effective solution offered
  • Ensure procedures, including risk and governance processes are followed, documented and correct authorisations are in place
  • Contribute to the preparation of Tender Preparation and Tender Construction programmes
  • Prepare a staff schedule for the Tender, using feedback from successful contracts and collaborating with other functions
  • Participate in the preparation of a procurement plan with the central/regional buyers to agree suppliers & sub-contractors, terms & conditions, and discount levels
  • Prepare enquiries and obtain competitive quotations for mechanical engineering resources, particularly materials and subcontractors
  • Obtain completed construction and design questionnaires where appropriate
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of technical developments and new methods within the industry
  • Prepare financial models for framework submissions, including setting appropriate staff rates
  • Cost coding using the standardised system to allow meaningful feedback and cost capture going forward 

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications 

Essential

  • Experience of the UK HVAC market
  • Experience of bid preparation and coordination
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a construction/ building services company
  • Computer literacy, including a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility
  • Customer focused
  • Experience as an estimator or similar position
  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles
  • In-depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas
  • Strong math and IT ability with an analytical mindset
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
  • Thoroughness and reliability
  • Excellent organizational skills 

Role Profile 

Highly Desirable

  • BSc/BA in engineering, construction science or relevant discipline
  • Some knowledge of Autodesk family, MS PowerPoint, Primavera P6, Dalux, ESTmep, CostOS
  • Experience of the Nuclear industry would be advantageous
  • Consideration would be given to candidates with more general or basic estimating experience wishing to develop their career in this field.
