Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrician based in the Midlands to join our growing team. The role involves working on commercial properties, with most projects located in Birmingham and surrounding areas, alongside regular nationwide travel. Candidates must be comfortable travelling and staying away from home when required.
This position is mainly focused on installation work, with some fault finding and diagnostic work included.
We are seeking a fully qualified Approved Electrician to carry out electrical installation, maintenance, and remedial works within a high-security prison environment. The successful candidate must hold, or be eligible to obtain, EL1 security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the site.
Working within a custodial setting requires strict adherence to security protocols, professionalism, and the ability to work safely in controlled environments.
Key Responsibilities
Installation of containment systems (tray, trunking, conduit, basket)
Installation and termination of SWA and twin & earth cabling
1st and 2nd fix electrical installations
Consumer unit and distribution board installation
Fault finding and diagnostics
Testing and inspection (where qualified)
Emergency lighting and fire alarm wiring
Working to current wiring regulations (BS 7671)
Completing relevant documentation and test certificates
Liaising with site managers, prison staff, and other trades
Ensuring compliance with all site security and health & safety procedures
Essential Requirements
NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
AM2 qualification
City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) - preferred
ECS Gold Card (Approved Electrician)
Proven experience in commercial/industrial environments
Ability to work in high-security settings
EL1 Security Clearance (or willingness to undergo clearance)
Clean criminal record (required for clearance)

Install earthing and bonding in accordance with BS 7671
Coordinate with other trades to ensure correct positioning and access
